About Outdoor Burning Regulations and
Permits
There are a number of laws and State Agencies
such as the Department of Environmental Quality and the State Fire
Marshals Office, that regulate outdoor burning in Oregon. These laws
also place the RESPONSIBILITY of compliance and enforcement on the
Fire Chief of every city and rural fire district in Oregon, whether
paid or volunteer. The laws also stipulate penalties for those who
are burning illegally. The Crooked River Ranch Rural Fire Protection
District “Outdoor Burning Regulations” are designed to keep both YOU
and the Fire District in compliance with those laws.
You Must Have a Current “Burn Permit” to Conduct Outdoor Burning!
Burn Permits are available at the District Office during regular
business hours only. Please call ahead for information & hours:
923-6776. Permits are good only for the “Burning Season” in which
they are issued. They must be renewed each year.
When you apply for a “Burn Permit”, you will receive a copy of the
current “Outdoor Burning Regulations”. We ask that you please read
the Regulations thoroughly prior to burning. If you have any
questions, please call us for an explanation. We would also be more
than happy to meet with you at your burn location to insure that it
is safe. (If your burn should get out of hand, you can be held
financially liable both for the cost of extinguishment and for
damage to neighboring properties.)
All outdoor burning activities must be registered the day of the
burning activity by calling the District’s Outdoor Burning
Information Line (541) 923-4633.
We require that fires be extinguished at dusk for two reasons: Burns
that continue past dusk tend to become unattended, and may spread
without anyone being there to contain them. Secondly, fires burning
at night are much more visible, and we are much more likely to be
called out on an emergency response to what turns out to be your
permitted burn. This can tie up personnel and equipment that may be
needed for a true emergency.
We all live on the “Ranch” for what is has to offer, but it is also
a high fire risk area. Please help us by doing your part to lessen
the likelihood of any wildfire, minor or major.
As a side note, you fire department is primarily a volunteer
department. In addition to fire related service, we also provide
basic and advanced life support ambulance service to the Ranch. The
district also has a very active Auxiliary. We are always looking for
additional help. If you would like to volunteer you services, please
contact the office at 923-6776.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation to make Crooked River
Ranch a better and safer place to live.
Sincerely,
The Board of Directors, Staff, Volunteers, & Auxiliary
Crooked River Ranch Rural Fire Protection District
