About the CRR Fire Auxiliary

The Crooked River Ranch Fire Auxiliary is a very active volunteer organization that serves as a support group for the both the Crooked River Ranch Volunteer Fire Association, Inc. and the Fire District itself.

The Auxiliary meets at the Fire Station each Monday morning at 9:00 AM for coffee and donuts, and to plan and carry out the "chores & projects" for that day. Formal Auxiliary meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 9:00 AM.

At any given time, you are liable to find the Auxiliary doing maintenance work on the Fire Station, putting up Christmas lights, installing a new address sign for a Ranch resident, or cooking breakfast for the Volunteer Fire Fighters at 5:00 AM after a long fire. The list is almost endless, and results in considerable savings to the District, and thus to the taxpayers.

The Auxiliary is an indispensable part of the Volunteer Fire Association's annual Holiday Toy & Food Drive for needy families on the Ranch.

The Auxiliary is also very involved in the Volunteer Fire Association's annual Easter Egg Hunt (the Auxiliary stuffs the 5,000 or so eggs with candy and helps "hide" them!), annual Breakfasts, and other activities and fundraisers.

The Auxiliary has also taken on the task of cleaning up 8 miles of Ranch roads, and each year funds a scholarship for the Terrebonne Boys and Girls Club in memory of the late Kitty Pullen! The Auxiliary is also carrying on a tradition started by Kitty - helping needy children at the Terrebonne School with school supplies, a warm coat, or other necessities.

The Auxiliary took the lead, along with the Mariposa Garden Club, in planting the shrubs around the new Fire Station and purchased and installed metal botanical markers to identify the plants, and which of those are considered "fire resistant".

With the advent of the new fire station, we are able to host fire related classes for Central Oregon Fire Departments. The Auxiliary is active in providing lunches for the students of these classes.

In addition to assisting the Volunteers and the District, the Auxiliary also helps with functions that are held at the Fire Station such as the annual blood drive; Grange dinner; flu shot clinics, and others.

In 2009, the Fire District started a tradition of honoring Auxiliary members who have passed away by hanging plaques with their names and pictures in the Fire Station. The plaques are displayed in the main entrance of the new Fire Station.

If you have a talent in a particular area, and would like to share that talent, the Fire Auxiliary might just be the organization for you. As an example, we are fortunate enough to have a member of the Auxiliary that is an excellent machinist who has hand crafted several specialized firefighting related tools for us. This has saved the District a considerable amount of money over purchasing them. So, having Auxiliary members with special talents is a great benefit, not only to the District, but also to the taxpayers of the District.

If you have a little spare time, and would like to be a part of an organization that gives back to the community, but aren't interested in being a firefighter or medic, please consider the Crooked River Ranch Rural Fire Protection District Auxiliary.
